About the tool

Better locator decisions, closer to the page.

Smart Locator Inspector brings element inspection, locator evaluation, and reusable automation generation into one browser workflow.

Why Smart Locator Inspector exists

UI automation often begins with repetitive work: searching through DevTools, comparing attributes, hand-writing selectors, testing match counts, and then rebuilding the result inside a Page Object or test. Smart Locator Inspector is designed to shorten that path.

The extension lets users inspect a selected element, review its markup and context, compare scored locator recommendations, and use the selected strategy to generate reusable automation assets. The goal is not simply to produce a selector—it is to encourage code that is understandable, testable, and easier to maintain.

Built for people who automate the web

Smart Locator Inspector supports both focused element-level tasks and broader workflows such as recording browser interactions, parameterizing repeated UI patterns, configuring runtime test data, and generating Page Objects and test files.

Framework-aware output

Locator intent should survive a framework choice. The extension can show equivalent locator syntax for Playwright, Selenium, and Cypress, helping teams compare or adapt automation without losing sight of what an element represents to the user.

Focused on maintainability

The product centers its workflow on four practical ideas:

  • Inspect the real element and its context before choosing a locator.
  • Compare locator strategies instead of accepting the first generated selector.
  • Test matches against the current page state.
  • Move repeatable interactions into reusable, parameterized code.

Smart Locator Inspector is an independent developer tool. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google, Microsoft, the Selenium project, Cypress, or the Playwright project.
